I didn't really understand it at first and was pretty skeptical. I could rant about Parents are usually asking about leveled books because it's what they're told to do or what they've been exposed to through their child's school (generally speaking). As a Reading Specialist I understand the purpose of Lexile levels, but they also drive me crazy because so many educators and parents look to them as the only measure when searching for a book. F&P is a different system, but one This seemingly innocuous directive—to read appropriately complex texts and to use scaffolding to help struggling students understand what they've read—is perhaps the most revolutionary element of the Common Core standards.
